我們通常也把這種傳感器稱為接近式傳感器。發(fā)射器的發(fā)射光照在檢測物上后，以任意角度散射。接收器接收到其中的一些光（當接收光強大于開關(guān)閥值時）后開關(guān)觸發(fā)，即檢測到物體。一般來說，與檢測距離有關(guān)的因素有：檢測物的顏色、尺寸及光澤度等等。傳感器的實際檢測距離是以“白色測試板”為基準的。白板的反射率為90%，通常被當作“標準檢測物”。深色或不光滑的檢測物通常反射率較低；因此在檢測此類物體時，必須增大傳感器的靈敏度或是將傳感器移近檢測物。此時，必須留意背景物體比檢測物更亮的情況，結(jié)果可能會檢測到背景物體（而忽略實際檢測物）。
我們有以下類型的漫反射型傳感器：
帶背景抑制功能的漫反射型傳感器：此類傳感器為檢測物限定了檢測距離，而與檢測物的顏色、反射率及光澤度無關(guān)。它能夠檢測直接放置在亮背景上的暗色物體，且安裝調(diào)節(jié)也很方便。
聚焦式漫反射型傳感器：聚焦式傳感器通過對透鏡的調(diào)節(jié)將發(fā)射器與接收器的聚焦點固定在同一位置，該設計有利于屏蔽背景的干擾，同時小光斑的設計縮小了在檢測黑色和白色目標物時的距離差。
帶背景處理功能的漫反射型傳感器：此類傳感器只對背景反射回的光進行分析（譬如：地板）。如果傳感器檢測不到背景，輸出將改變狀態(tài)。此類傳感器一般應用于對不規(guī)則形狀的物體進行檢測的情況，此時使用者通常難以確定物體反射光反射回傳感器的具體位置。
